End of the World...well, End of My Block –that is!

End of the World...well, End of My Block –that is!

InterContinetal Hotel in Times Square

Once upon a time... ...it was my birthday weekend and I kinda sorta "BLACKED-OUT" — I do remember leaving my Friday night party @ COPA w/ two girls from California and back to their place — at the InterContinental Hotel in Times Square. I've seen some fancy hotels before in my lifetime but this one was really nice...very artsy, contemporary & cozy.

Upon entering their room, I see unlimited supplies of unopened beauty products scattered all over the place — but what really caught my attention was the bottles of Moët Rosé on top of their counter...I think I struck gold!

It was a wild night.

After watching a wild movie — Killing Them Softly (2012), after doing some wild partying — COPACABANA and after a wild time w/ those Cali girls — InterContinental Hotel, I get dropped-off in a yellow cab later that morning –near the corner of my building, and this is what I saw:

Head-on collision

Crossing-light pole has been removed
and has yet to be replaced by the city
As I stumbled-out, I see an Infiniti G37 making love w/ a cross-light pole at the corner of my block. It must have just happened as I see smoke rising from engine's hood and the odor of burning metal was still pretty strong.

While scanning the area, I didn't see a driver, passengers or any victims and so, there was no need for me to find the nearest telephone booth.

More than an hour had passed until I heard sirens — by that time, I had already made it upstairs — safe and sound...unfortunately, the same can't be said for the street-light pole.

Fast forward a week later... ...it was Friday, December 21st, 2012 a.k.a. End of the World according to the Mayan Calendar. While laying in bed, all I keep hearing is cars beeping and street commotion — a typical morning in Brooklyn and thought nothing of it.

Upon arriving to work, I receive a e-mail/text from my roommate telling me that the scaffolding near our building had collapse onto his truck. I quickly went online to see numerous news coverage:

Associated Press

NEW YORK — A five-story scaffold has collapsed in Brooklyn during high winds that are buffeting the New York City area.

WABC-TV reports the scaffold fell Friday at about 1:30 a.m. in Brooklyn's Bensonhurst neighborhood. No injuries were reported.

The structure broke away from a four-story building in that is under construction and fell onto electrical wires. It also damaged an SUV that was parked across the street.

Molly Rokasy News 12 Brooklyn

Please note, I was "tickled pink" when I discovered that my favorite news anchor –Molly Rokasy (the woman of my dreams) reported the incident on 12 News Brooklyn.

Multi-story scaffolding crashed onto the side-walks & streets of Bay Parkway

My roommate reported this accident to his car insurance company and the initial step would be an attempt to repair the damages or worst case, report the truck at a loss...

...to be continued.
