Welcome the "New" Barclays Station in Brooklyn

Subway stairwell outside the Barclays Center, the "new" home of the Brookyn Nets

Sam Cooke once sang ♫ It's been a long, a long time coming / But I know a change gonna come / Oh yes it will ♫ Brooklynites have been waiting decades for a national sports team of their own ever since the Brooklyn Dodgers packed-up their bags so they can get out of Dodge after the 1957 season...buying a one-way ticket to L.A. and never looked back.

Fast forward, five decades later....the New Jersey Nets along w/ All-Stars Deron Williams & Joe Johnson will be moving cross-state to Brooklyn –forming perhaps the #1 backcourt in the NBA. The Brooklyn Nets will not only have a new, top-of-the-line Barclay Center arena to play in but also a brand-new subway station simply called Barclay Station.

Monday, September 17th, 2012 marks the Grand Opening of the Barclays Station — $76 million dollar subway station project funded by the city's tax payers for the Brooklyn Nets.

"In addition to nine subway lines, 11 bus lines and the Long Island Rail Road stop at the arena. Travel time from Wall Street (2, 3, 4 or 5) is 10 minutes. From Penn Station (2, 3, C) and Grand Central (4, 5) it’s 22 minutes, and Coney Island (D, N, Q) is 30 minutes. It’s a 20-minute ride on the LIRR from Jamaica." — New York Daily News
