WHO IS LANA DEL REY?
Geico Commercial: Do You Live Under a Rock? |
But don't take my word for it — Lana Del Rey, whose real name is Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, has described herself as a "self-styled gangsta Nancy Sinatra."
With lips to die for (amidst rabid plastic surgery rumors) along w/ a vintage-style, she's been compared to as a cross between a slender-Adele & the late-Amy Whinehouse — no complaints here.

Lana was born in New York and raised in Lake Placid, a quiet village near the outskirts of the State of New York. At the young age of 15, she was sent to boarding school in Connecticut, before moving to New York City — studying metaphysics at Fordham University.
She began performing in clubs around the city under various names, including her birth name "Lizzy Grant" as well as "Sparkle Rope Jump Queen" and also as "Lizzy Grant and the Phenomena."
"I was always singing, but didn't plan on pursuing it seriously," she told Vogue Magazine. "When I got to New York City when I was 18, I started playing in clubs in Brooklyn - I have good friends and devoted fans on the underground scene, but we were playing for each other at that point - and that was it."

"Video Games" – Lana Del Rey |
At 20-yrs of age, Lana signed a record contract for $10,000 and moved into a trailer park outside of the city. The album she recorded was later shelved, causing her to shift her focus as she began working in local community service.
"Homeless outreach, drug and alcohol rehabilitation - that's been my life for the past five years,"
The overall product of the "new & improved" singing sensation has left viewers & listeners either enthralled w/ the nostalgia or spewing w/ hate.
Why the hate?
Some critics are quick to point-out that Lana Del Rey's indie-label "sad-core" music-style didn't evolve because she came from a broken home or trailer park — her father is a multi-millionaire.
