Nike's “Fantastic Four” 4-Pack

Fantastic Four – The World's Greatest Comic Magazine

“Fantastic Four” from Marvel Comics are my favorite superheros — they're known for their distinct & unique physical abilities resulting from being exposed to cosmic rays in outer space. They were the first superhero team created by Stan Lee & co-pilot Jack Kirby.

Nike's ‘Fantastic Four’ Sneaker Pack each have distinguishable colorways and unique materials used to build each sneaker: Nike Air Max 90 (Mr. Fantastic) features a canvas-like material, Nike Air Force 1 (Invisible Girl) showcases a transparent, see-through upper, Nike Dunk High (The Thing) used material that resembles rocky-hard texture, and Nike Air Max 95 (Human Torch) utilized patent leather to emulate scorching-hot flames.

theSPEECH of the CENTURY STORY

Iron Maiden's "Live After Death" Double-Live-Disc

theSPEECH of the CENTURY STORY
by theKONGBLOG

Once upon a time... ...I was considered the biggest metal head in my vast inner-circle of friends and most music critics & music historians would agree w/ my opinion that the pioneers of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal — Iron Maiden, is also Thee Greatest Heavy Metal Band of All-Times!

With that being said, Perhaps the Greatest Live Album of All-Times is their 1985 release called, "Live After Death" -which was double "live" album featuring a collection of their greatest hits from their World Slavery Tour.

[Note: Iron Maiden have sold over 85 million records worldwide w/ little radio or television support — a truly astounding & remarkable feat in the music industry.]

Winston Churchill - House of Commons June 4th, 1940

Please note, the beginning intro from "Live After Death" before the opening live concert track "Aces High" is part of the, "We Shall Fight On The Beaches" speech made by Winston Churchill on June 4th, 1940 in the House of Commons:

"... We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender..."

As my biopic tale goes...the Catholic school I attended planned on having their first annual Speech Contest for their students from 4th -to- 8th grade. I was selected as one of the participants for the speech contest -which really had no prerequisite requirement except that the student had to recite a speech of any kind.

With that in mind, the only speech I knew of were the typically famous American speeches from Lou Gehrig, Martin Luther King, Jr. and John F. Kennedy...but then the "light-bulb" popped-up in my head and I remembered the "infamous" opening speech to Iron Maiden's "Live After Death" double-disc album by Winston Churchill....which was inevitably my speech of choice.

Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden
I went to library and eventually discovered that Churchill's speech intro from Iron Maiden was only an excerpt — the actual speech was longer than expected. Since it probably wasn't well-known amongst my teachers & peers, I condensed most of the speech and focused more or less on the "Live After Death" intro.

Since I practically knew it by heart, I recited the speech during the practice/preliminary round w/ such arrogance & confidence — mimicking the way Churchill had presented it (word-for-word) along w/ Bruce Dickinson's wailing arms & hand movements (which was what the lead singer of Iron Maiden was known for in concert).

I can see all my classmates eyes-popping wide open & jaws-dropping to the floor and can see that the teachers were mesmerized by my recital and strong hand-gestures...it was as if I wrote the speech myself.

To make a long story shorter, I breezed my way through the prelims that were held inside our classrooms and eventually won the finals in the school's auditorium –which was actually a converted gymnasium. As easy as it was to capture first place in my school's very first speech contest, I do recall making a few mistakes — deviating from the actual lines of the speech and even leaving-out a bulk of it.

No matter.

Because in the end, I saved Winston Churchill's "We Shall Fight On The Beaches" excerpted speech as the outro — the grand finale. And with that, cemented my legacy and personal lore in my Catholic school's history w/ theSPEECH of the CENTURY!

Action Bronson the Chef

Action Bronson is an Albanian rapper from Queens, New York who's voice is oft-compared to Ghostface Killah from the Wu-Tang Clan. Before gaining notoriety in the underground rap scene, he was a respected "fire-flame" gourmet chef. Perhaps he should change his name to Bronson the Chef?

In an interview w/ our favorite Hip-Hop website called HipHopDX, he was asked the comparison,

"Yeah, I mean at the end of the day, it’s all good because Ghostface Killah is one of the best rappers alive, so if I sound similar to the best rapper alive then that is fine. To me there is no comparison; he is a legend and I am a newcomer. If I would try and emulate with anyone it would be Kool G Rap, he is the person I look up to the most. I am not upset but at the end of the day I am my own person and no one can take that away from me."

Queen's Deadly Combo: Action Bronson the Rapper & Alchemist the Producer

Chef Bronson recently teamed-up w/ One of Hip-Hop's Creative & Elite Producers in The Alchemist — who seemed to have re-invented his sound as of late (either that or he's evolving his soulful-sonic production to a more minimalist sound w/ an endless cocktail of beautifully-bizarre & extra-rare samples that will make it difficult for contemporary ALC fans to guess who's behind the boards on this one or that one).

Together, this lethal Queens combo brings you a free album w/ special underground guests: Roc Marciano, Evidence, Styles P & Sean Price — to name a few. For those who continue to cry, "Hip-Hop is dead!" It's not dead, you have to go underground to look for it.

She gave her heart, to falling star
It was build through this tragedy
All it was when I ran around the world, she’d cries
As the tears from her eyes fall
No one understands, and no one will
All she has lost
If he’s not here, then where?
If he’s not here, then where?
If he’s not here, then where?
If he’s not here, then where?

What she found in there
You’re the cold, blue clear
The words distressed in unfamiliar
Where the feeling’s here
And emṗtiness had come
And in her chest she cried, she did
Reality settles, the memories race
Well on the screen he left
She teared, the selfishness has robbed you of the memory
could’ve been
I wouldn’t change a thing about you
I love you till ..

If he’s not here, then where?
If he’s not here, then where?
I know, I’ve been searching for my whole life
If he’s not here, then where?
If he’s not here, then where?
My love, I’ve searching for my afterman

The Peculiar Pain of Paper Cuts — ABC News Medical Unit

The Peculiar Pain of Paper Cuts
by Lauren Cox ABC News Medical Unit

The dreaded papercut

They always strike when least expected — opening the mail, rummaging through notes, and in an instant, it's "ouch!" and you're sucking air in through your teeth.

Oh, the paper cut. Since the dawn of office work, it has been the one thing that can make even the most composed business person spew profanities. Somehow, that little cut stings more than any other nick — and it keeps hurting, too.

But why? Theories of office lore circulate the Internet — from the microscopic structure of paper, to the chemicals used in paper plants, to bacteria living on our faxes.

While dermatologists know which theories are wrong, the most annoying pain in the office still remains a bit of a medical mystery.

Hogging the Nerves

"Nobody really knows the answer," says Dr. Joseph Eastern, a dermatologist in private practice in Belleville, N.J. But, Eastern adds, there are a few good theories.

The first culprit would be our hands' nociceptors — the nerve fibers that send touch and pain messages to our brain, particularly the somatosensory cortex.

The hands hog more nociceptors than the arms, the legs, or the stomach, as a way to protect us.

"If we touch something hot or sharp, or in anyway painful, we are most likely to do it with our hands — and so, our hands should be a great judge of those bad or painful things," says Dr. Mark Abdelmalek, chief of laser and dermatologic surgery at Drexel University College of Medicine.

"If you had a paper cut on your thigh, it wouldn't hurt nearly as bad because the thigh doesn't deserve all that attention in the brain's somatosensory cortex," he says.

But the strategic concentration of nerves on our hands doesn't explain why paper cuts instantly sting in a way other scrapes and cuts on our hands do not.

To explain that, people often turn to the weapon — paper.

Don't Blame Just Hands, Blame Paper

Internet forum posts are full of blame for paper, and most are a little off the mark.

One frequent claim is that paper is porous, and therefore, a better host to bacteria than the clean surface of a razor or a knife. Cut yourself with paper, and you'll leave behind debris and bacteria to sting you.

But dermatologists don't always agree.

"Number one, bacteria don't cause pain," says Eastman. "You get pain with an infection, because your skin is inflamed, trying to fight off bacteria, but bacteria doesn't cause pain."

Second, says Eastman, "I don't know that there's any evidence that paper leaves behind more dirt and bugs than anything else you cut yourself with."

However, paper is still part of the problem. Paper is sharp, but it's duller than knives and razors. It's also more flimsy than needles and rocks. Unfortunately, for office workers, the combination of paper's unique qualities results in awful cuts.

The Perfect Painful Cut

The flexible, relatively dull edge of paper means paper cuts never go very deep. But while a dull, shallow cut sounds less painful, pain specialists say it's worse.

First, the dull edge of the paper is more likely to rip flesh than tear it. "This means paper could do more microscopic damage," says Eastman.

The microscopic damage hits the most sensitive nerves, too. The concentrated nerves on the hands have a very low threshold to activate and send a signal to the brain, says Dr. Carmen R. Green, associate professor of pain medicine at the University of Michigan.

Meanwhile, larger nerves, which send dull aching pain, are tucked safely away deeper in the flesh. "Sometimes, you can slice your finger open and it looks bad, but it doesn't hurt that much," says Green.

So, since a paper cut is shallow, and unlikely to bleed a lot, it will more likely sting, instead of produce a dull throb. Unfortunately, the shallow cut only brings more bad news.

Because paper cuts are shallow, they are less likely to bleed, clot and seal up the wound with a scab. That means the raw nerves are open to the air, and keep sending new messages of pain to the brain.

What To Do

Cover the cut. Sealing the wound will stimulate fewer pain receptors, and it will help the cut heal, says Dr. Nicole Neuschler, assistant professor of dermatology at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York.

"People often don't try to seal the wound," says Neuchler. "But it could be as simple as Vaseline, liquid bandage, Super Glue or Crazy Glue." — ABC News

INSIDE KNOWLEDGE: Why Are Bus Seats So Ugly?

Typical "ugly" bus seat designs
Why Are Bus Seats So Ugly?

Before we get to the answer, please note that this question brought forth several years of bewilderment — which led to several months of "non-stop" pondering.

WHY?

Well, I use to take the bus to college (from Brooklyn -to- Albany in Upstate New York) during my educational years and from Brooklyn -to- New Jersey during my corporate years.

Could it be the designers were colour-blind or was it because the manufacturers couldn't afford quality design-work?

Ultimately, after several painstaking days of "in-depth" analysis — rendered by theKONGBLOG™'s Panel of Experts, we finally discovered why buses have the most awful, hideous and repulsive bus seat designs known to mankind.

Years & years of complaints from bus commuters prompted theKONGBLOG™ to finally take action!

And the answer is...

...bus seat covers were engineered & scientifically designed w/ image-concealing algorithms to hide all the disgusting filth, mindless littering and unwanted graffiti, "DUH!!!"

Durable transport fabric depicted above features a retro 'moquette' design used to mask “butt juice" stains

In layman terms, bus seat covers are typically created w/ durable 'water-repellant' fabric and designed w/ specific 'geometric' patterns; in order to hide accidental stains or prevent vandalism. And that ladies & gentlemen, is the INSIDE KNOWLEDGE!

The S.O.U.L. Tape 2 (2012) – Fabolous | FREE Mixtape & Tidbits

Fabolous is a Brooklyn-born & bred MC who is comparable to those consistent and vital players on your team...not taking anything away from him but he's sort of a calm & laid-back assassin — not necessarily an attention-seeking, loud-mouthed leader, but someone who seamlessly comes through in the clutch and is always involved in pivotal plays.

Fabolous in V.I.P. @ M2, NYC. Hosted by theKONGLIST®

Championship or winning-caliber teams doesn't necessarily need a team full of captains or bonafide leaders — almost every successful team has a complimentary player who's consistent...one who gets on base w/ regularity (puts out new material to keep sh*t fresh), hits for average; to all parts of the field (makes sure his album/music caters to all demographics) and when needed, goes for power by hitting the long ball (dishes-out blazin' hot club tracks & platinum-selling hit singles w/ the sickest beats & punchlines).

Brooklyn rapper Fabolous at Adrienne Bailon's birthday party rocking a Burberry reversible down vest ($395)
w/ a pair of Timberland "Construction" boots.

Aside from music, Fab is undoubtedly & unequivocally on the forefront when it comes to rockin' the hottest outfits & latest gear — in fact, his taste for clothes may be unmatched in the Hip-Hop community/Rap industry.

Perhaps the fashion conscious borough of Brooklyn may have a lot to do w/ it but regardless, he is very fashionable & stylish rapper — mixing the right combination of urban, street wear w/ high-end, designer duds.

As w/ every consistent player, you can bet your bottom dollar that Fabolous comes-out w/ smash-hit singles on the reg: "Can't Deny It", "Young'n (Holla Back)", "Breathe", "Make Me Better" feat. Ne-Yo & "Imma Do It" feat. Kobe and is guaranteed to be seen in public w/ the latest & hottest gear.

Jack Taylor's Record Breaking 138 Points in College Basketball

Grinnell's Jack Taylor scored an astonishing 138 points in the team's win over Faith Baptist Bible.

Jack Taylor scores 138 points for Grinnell

Jack Taylor's performance left even Kobe Bryant impressed.

The Division III guard shattered the NCAA scoring record with 138 points, hoisting a mind-boggling 108 attempts - or one shot every 20 seconds - in eclipsing the previous record by 25 points.

Taylor made 27 of 71 3-point attempts, was 52 of 108 overall from the field and added seven free throws on 10 attempts while playing 36 minutes in Grinnell's 179-104 victory over Faith Baptist Bible on Tuesday night in Grinnell, Iowa.

"That's crazy, man. I don't care what level you're at. Scoring 138 points is pretty insane," the Lakers' superstar said after Los Angeles' victory over the Nets.

Even Taylor was having a hard time processing his feat.

"I don't think reality has set in yet," said the 5-foot-10, 170-pound sophomore from Black River Falls, Wis.

Jack Taylor, a sophomore guard
from Division III Grinnell College in Iowa
set a new men’s NCAA basketball scoring record
by dropping 138 points
That's partly because Taylor was coming off a poor shooting weekend and started Tuesday's night game off slow - at least according to his standards. His coaches figured the best way to get him on track was for him to keep chucking, so that's what Taylor did.

"Maybe my cold shooting from the weekend was affecting me," Taylor said. "But then they started to drop."

Taylor had 58 points at halftime.

Then he got hot.

Taylor was 32 of 58 from the field - including 18 3s - in the final 20 minutes and averaged an astonishing four points a minute in the second half.

"It felt like anything I tossed up was going in," Taylor said.

Bryant, who has a shoe that bears his Black Mamba nickname, has a theory.

"He must have been wearing the Mambas, man. Only Mambas have no conscience to shoot the ball that much," said Bryant, who has an 81-point game, second-best in NBA history, on his resume.

Rio Grande's Bevo Francis held the NCAA scoring record with 113 points against Hillsdale in 1954. In 1953, Francis had 116 against Ashland Junior College. Frank Selvy is the only other player to reach triple figures, scoring 100 points for Division I Furman against Newberry in 1954. The previous Grinnell record was 89 by Griffin Lentsch last Nov. 19 against Principia.

Jack Taylor, a 5-foot-10, 170-pound guard
hit 52 of 108 shots including 27 out of 71
attempts from 3-point range.
Taylor recently transferred to Grinnell, located about 50 miles east of Des Moines, after playing one season for Wisconsin-La Crosse. Under coach David Arseneault, the Pioneers press and shoot 3s like nobody else in the country at any level. They've led the nation in scoring for 17 of the past 19 seasons while ranking first nationally in 3-point shooting for the 15 of those past 19 years.

Taylor's game was so astounding it overshadowed the 70 points Faith Baptist's David Larson had on 34-of-44 shooting.

Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks were amazed by Taylor's accomplishment when they heard about it after their victory in New Orleans.

"I never heard of nothing like that. That's like a video game," Anthony said, an incredulous look on his face. "How can you shoot 100 times, though?"

He joked that from now on when someone asks if he's taking too many shots, he'll mention "that someone shot it 108 times."

Raymond Felton also was astounded by the 108 shots.

"His elbow has got to be sore," Felton said.

INSIDE KNOWLEDGE: 50 Cent's New Single "My Life (Trailer)" feat. Eminem & Adam Levine. Produced by S1.

"My Life (Trailer)" – 50 Cent feat. Eminem & Adam Levine. Produced by S1.

S1 Recalls Producing 50 Cent's "My Life" Featuring Eminem & Adam Levine
by Slava Kuperstein

Producer S1
S1 discusses the path his beat took to becoming one of 50 Cent's most-anticipated songs.

"One of the most highly-anticipated tracks from 50 Cent's Street King Immortal is "My Life," featuring Eminem and Adam Levine.
The Voice on NBC

The track, which was produced by S1, will be performed live sans Eminem on NBC's "The Voice." In an interview with iStandardProducers, S1 discussed how he came to produce the cut.

S1...recalling the moment he met Fif. "I went to [New York] and made a visit to Dre at the G-Unit office. Fif was in a meeting in the backroom so Dre took me back to meet him. When Fif saw me, he immediately gets up and leaves the meeting and tells me 'I had an APB out on you. You got some HEAT!' So we went into his office and he told me the concept of the 'My Life' record and spit his verses for me. He was like 'This is gonna be HUGE.'

S1 explained that it took some time before the song emerged as a single. "So for the next year or so 50 cent would mention me in all his interviews about me producing on his album. Through the grapevine I was hearing Eminem hopped on the record then from an Executive at Interscope Records I was told Adam Levine was gonna be on the record. Fast forward through three mixtapes and one album later, the song stood the test of time and its about to come out now as a single." — Hip-Hop DX

Adrian Peterson — Superhero Running Back

Adrian Peterson 6' 1" 217 lbs | #28 | RB | Minnesota Vikings

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's — Adrian Peterson — Minnesota Vikings running back w/ a superhero's body is a candidate for both the NFL's Most Valuable Player and Comeback Player of the Year in 2012-13. Peterson has a rebuilt left knee after he tore his anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments.

Keep-in-mind that a normal human being can get surgery – rehabilitate their injured body part – make an incredible comeback but it's not normal for a human being to comeback – use that rehabilitated body part and delegate it to abuse & punishment — tackled by a 320 lb Refrigerator Line-Men and supersede his goal, dreams & aspirations?

Talk around the NFL during pre-season was that the Vikings star half-back might not be ready at the start of the season, and that they were aiming for 2013, but his coaches, opponents, staff & teammates are all "shocked" at how quickly he has regained form. He recently stated, "I'm 100 percent, but I'm trying to reach past that 100 percent. I've been better than I was last year the last couple weeks. I still feel I'm going to get stronger. That's what I'm excited about the most."

ESPN Video: Adrian Peterson sits down with Cris Carter to talk about his determination and return from injury.

It's difficult to fathom but the knee injury may have been the best thing that could have happened to Peterson. "It's hard for me to believe he's better than he was before the surgery, but some of the things he has done make me believe it," Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said.

Peterson said he is a better player because of the challenge of over-coming the series of unfortunate injuries have presented. "It really made me look at things differently," he said. "It really made me scratch harder, dig even deeper when I was working out and training to get back. This injury is like a blessing in disguise. It helped me push through (to) another level."

The Perfect Body – Built & Lean

Upon his less than miraculous speedy return, Peterson has altered his running style. He may not be so intent on carrying three or four defenders ala Mark Bavaro and may head out-of-bounds instead of absorbing punishing hits & tackles.

Coach Frazier said the mighty #28 Half-Man/Half-Amazing back has been less set on hitting a home run on every carry — let's mix-it-up a bit , switch-up styles, "He still is running with power and authority," Frazier said. "He understands when to accelerate and when not to. He has cut down on negative runs. He's so patient now. He's setting up blocks so well for the offensive line."

It is rare for any athlete to comeback close to full-strength after not only a torn ACL but a torn MCL as well... ...but perhaps Adrian Peterson isn't just any athlete. A.D. "All Day" is the first NFL running back to eclipse the 1,000 mark this year and has his sights on besting his career highs of 1,760 yards & 18 touchdowns.

Defenders be afraid... ...be very afraid.

[UPDATE: Adrian Peterson ran for 2,097 yards in 2012 — 9-yards from breaking Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record of NFL's single-season rushing record with 2,105 yards, set in 1984.]

Lincoln High School Breeds NBA Point Guards: Stephon Marbury, Sebastian Telfair & Lance Stephenson

Abraham Lincoln High School in Brooklyn, New York

LINCOLN — Abraham Lincoln High School is a public high school located at 2800 Ocean Parkway, Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York. Their team name is the Lincoln Railsplitters and they don navy blue, black and grey colored-jerseys.

Lincoln has produced the following NBA players:
  • Stephon Marbury (6' 3" 205 lbs. – 4th overall pick in the 1996 NBA Draft from Georgia Tech after his freshman year)
  • Sebastian Telfair (6' 0" 170 lbs. – 13th overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft from high school)
  • Lance Stephenson (6' 5" 228 lbs. – 40th overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft from Cincinnati after his freshman year)
While Marbury is currently the most successful professional basketball player of the three, Telfair was the Lincoln's "all-time" leading scorer until Stephenson broke his record in 2009.

What makes these high school alums different from most professional athletes who attended the same school, their story is a bit more interesting because of the fact that both Marbury & Teflair are blood cousins — cousins who were prized prospects at Lincoln High School in the Brooklyn section of Coney Island.

NBA career season average best — 23.9 points & 9.3 assists

NBA career season average bests —  9.8 points & 5.9 assists 7.9 points & 2.8 assists, respectively

Lincoln High School is currently 2 & 1/2 miles away from my "wanna-be" penthouse apartment — you can say we drink the same tap water but for some strange reason, I did not develop the same type of lightning-fast ball-handling skills, lethal cross-overs or high-flying dunking abilities of the aforementioned playground legends from Coney Island.

— Cousins —

Marbury, Telfair & Stephenson all received High School Player of the Year Awards while forgoing most of their college careers and in Telfair's case — shot straight from high school into the NBA.

Although these Lincoln HS alums achieved national attention and almighty praises from basketball scouts for their amateur play, their professional careers are all controversial stories that's still being written.

Marbury scored 41 points in the clinching game as Beijing defeated Guangdong 4 - 1

Regardless, it is befuddling to one's mind to have not one, but two and possibly three point guards from the Coney Island area to achieve NBA stardom. While many NBA fans are familiar w/ the whole Stephon "Starbury" Marbury tenure and ultimate demise w/ his hometown team, the New York Knicks, here's a quick recap to freshen one's mind:

Beijing idolizes Marbury, helping them upset Guangdong
- winners of
7 of the previous 8 CBA Championships
Starbury was in Mike D'Anotini's doghouse in 2008 and eventually lost the starting PG position to Chris Duhon. Instead of suiting-up for games, he was placed on the inactive list and remain on the bench in street clothes...

...with trades & injuries having left the depleted Knicks w/ only seven players, Mike D'Antoni asks Marbury to suit-up and offers him the opportunity to play. Marbury refuses and the Knicks fine and later ban him from attending practices and games. He was eventually released and is currently playing overseas for the Beijing Ducks of the Chinese Basketball Association — winning a championship w/ them in 2012.

The chips were down on Sebastian "Bassy" Telfair but he seemed to have resurrected a rather disappointing 8 year NBA career. Lance "Born Ready" Stephenson has been featured in the NBA's Top Plays of the Night more than several times in this his second year.

theKONGBLOG™ will continue to follow these Coney Island phenoms as they continue to blossom and in Stephon's case; round-out their basketball careers.

Please note  –after "in-depth" KSI analysis, perhaps Stephon, Sebastian & Stephenson were drinking bottled water instead of Brooklyn's tap water?

Perhaps.
