EPIC BRAWLS: Larry Bird vs. Bill Laimbeer 1987 NBA Playoffs

An "all-out" brawl of epic proportions took place during Game 3 of the 1987 NBA Eastern Conference Finals between the Boston Celtics vs. Detroit Pistons. After receiving a baseline pass in the low-post, Larry Bird pump fakes the-living-sh*t-out-of-Dennis Rodman and Bill Laimbeer "simultaneously & viciously" clotheslines Bird –taking him down hard.

The Clothesline Heard Around The World (1987) -starring- Bill  Laimbeer & Larry Bird.
Co-starring Dennis Rodman as The Worm.

After careful analysis through the use of instant replay, Bird seems to have unintentionally "under-cut" Rodman a split-second before being "tackled & slammed" — as the three come crashing down to the hardwood floor in a big pile of heap and that's when all hell broke loose...

...tempers flared, punches were thrown, eyes were gorged, elbows were exchanged, choke-holds were applied and the benches cleared.

After the two combatants were separated, the 6' 9" 220 pound Celtic Legend uncharacteristically snapped and beamed the ball directly at the 6' 10" 245 pound Piston Bad Boy — who looked totally bewildered & malintent

"The Worm" who was probably listed at 6' 7" 210 pounds at the time, charged Bird and the two got entangled and the fireworks continued in the NBA's version of a Battle Royale.

"I want you!"

Laimbeer vehemently stated, 'I didn`t do a damn thing, I tried to grab hold of him to break his fall...and Larry came up swinging. I think I was victimized by my reputation.'

"Go ahead, make my day."

Larry retorted, "I wish they would have parted the sea, cleared the court for about 15 minutes and just let us go at each other. We would have seen who the real man is. He was backing away from me and didn`t want any part of me."

Bird sarcastically added, "I'm just trying to protect my career. I'm trying to get by alive. I want to play several more years. I want to win championships."

[Note: The two love birds were ejected from the game and later fined — Bill Laimbeer of the Detroit Pistons $5,000 and Larry Bird of the Boston Celtics $2,000 for their epic brawl.]
