Grand Theft Auto V Trailer by Rockstar Games — Preview by Forbes

Grand Theft Auto V Trailer by Rockstar Games
"Rockstar is stingy about Grand Theft Auto 5. It knows it’s got one of the biggest games of the year on its hands, it knows it has a critical and commercial darling, and it’s not doing much in the way of outreach because of that. So far, we’ve seen snapshots of brief moments from the game that hint at small pieces of what we might see – aside from that, it’s been anyone’s guess. That just ended.

The digital edition of Game Informer’s December Issue is out, and with it, a ridiculous amount of information about Rockstar’s latest open world crime epic. The biggest surprise was that the game is going to feature three protagonists that the player can switch between at nearly any time. No word on co-op play, but that set-up makes it a big question mark. We’re also going to see a return of randomized events ala Red Dead Redemption, and some of the characters from Grand Theft Auto 4.

What really caught my eye was that the world was going to be bigger than Red Dead Redemption, San Andreas and Grand Theft Auto IV combined. Which is a really, really gigantic game. San Andreas alone was staggeringly huge when it first came out. That kind of scope isn’t in itself a good thing –  give me half as much good content rather than twice as much space any day – but Rockstar has always had a knack for making their cities interesting. San Andreas, in particular, was a study in how to make a gigantic map not boring.

I have my reservations about Grand Theft Auto 5. I was underwhelmed and bored by 4, and I haven’t seen any indication that we’re going to be solving that game’s problems with the next title. Something about the trademark Rockstar insanity set against an HD world fell apart for me. Red Dead Redemption, for me, is Rockstar’s finest HD outing, and here’s hoping it can incorporate some of those lessons in GTA 5 this spring." —  Dave Thier, Contributor "I write about video games and technology."
