"Simple Man" – Lynyrd Skynyrd w/ Lyrics, Live Version & Bio

"Simple Man" – Lynyrd Skynyrd

Mama told me when I was young
Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say
And if you do this it will help you some sunny day

Oh, take your time, don't live too fast
Troubles will come and they will pass
You'll find a woman and you'll find love
And don't forget, son, there is someone up above

And be a simple kind of man
Oh, be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh, won't you do this for me, son, if you can

Forget your lust for the rich man's gold
All that you need is in your soul
And you can do this, oh baby, if you try
All that I want for you, my son, is to be satisfied

And be a simple kind of man
Oh, be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh, won't you do this for me, son, if you can

Oh yes, I will

Boy, don't you worry, you'll find yourself
Follow your heart and nothing else
And you can do this, oh baby, if you try
All that I want for you, my son, is to be satisfied

And be a simple kind of man
Oh, be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh, won't you do this for me, son, if you can

Baby, be a simple, really simple man
Oh, be something you love and understand.

[2005 DVD: The Vicious Cycle Tour - "30 Years of Rock 'n' Roll"]

Southern rock pioneers Lynyrd Skynyrd (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd) was one of the most popular rock n' roll bands in the 1970's — introducing "Sweet Home Alabama," "Free Bird" to the world. At the pinnacle of their success, three members died in a horrific plane crash in 1977 — the band's plane attempted an emergency landing on a small airstrip, but horrifically crashed in a forest in Mississippi. Ronnie Van Zant (lead singer), Steve Gaines (rhythm & lead guitars), Cassie Gaines (backing vocals) were killed on impact while other band members and road crew members suffering serious injuries.

Ronnie Van Zant (January 15th, 1948 – October 20th, 1977)

In 1987, Lynyrd Skynyrd reunited w/ Johnny Van Zant as their new lead singer — fittingly enough, he is the younger brother of co-founder & former lead vocalist Ronnie Van Zant and .38 Special founder Donnie Van Zant. The reformed Lynyrd Skynyrd released a live DVD of their Vicious Cycle Tour featuring One of My Newfound Favorite Songs Ever — Simple Man.
