-No Cellphone Use In Classroom- |
While at work, I keep getting text messages from my sister (I have it on vibrate). Being a teacher, I need to lead by example so I didn’t respond to these texts or even check my phone. If I forbid my students to have phones, I too should abide by my own rules.
When time permitted, I checked the messages and it was my sister requesting that I send a copy of both of my parent’s driver’s license and that she needed them that day. No problem other than the fact that I don’t get home until around 11-11:30pm. I did the old scan and e-mail to my sister their licenses.

Ok, it wasn’t a Lexus (to remember) but it did come on a Friday before Christmas and it had a red ribbon on it as well. The true result was a 2013 Honda CR-V:

Marvel Comics: The Untold Story — The Fantastic Four's Low-Budget B-Movie

Marvel Comics: The Untold Story — Fantastic Four's "Unreleased" Low-Budget B-Movie
"At the newly christened Marvel Films, Avi Arad was as dependent on Hollywood studios as Stan Lee had been. Ron Perelman didn’t want Marvel to get into the risky business of film production; he just wanted to license the properties and make a killing on the merchandise that followed. But by October 1993, Arad was off to a strong start, signing a deal with Twentieth Century Fox to do a live-action X-Men movie.
Then he heard about a low-budget Fantastic Four film that was nearing completion. Months earlier, only three days before producer Bernd Eichinger’s $250,000 option from 1986 was due to expire, Fantastic Four had begun shooting with borrowed cameras on a soundstage in the Venice section of Los Angeles; it was being directed by the son of Vidal Sassoon and produced by Roger Corman. Convinced that the movie would do damage to the brand, Arad called Eichinger and offered to buy back the movie for a couple of million dollars in cash. Then he destroyed every print of the film."
"Unreleased to the general public and infamous for its poor quality within geek circles, this Roger Corman adaptation of the Marvel Comics supergroup is an interesting cult item that ranks up there with the dismal Captain America feature and the cheap Hulk TV movies. The story of the film goes back to the late '80s when Marvel Comics were licensing out their characters for mild profit in a time when the comic industry was failing.
Enter a German company called Neue Constantin and producer Bernd Eichinger, who held the rights for almost four years before their contract was about to run out. In order to retain the rights to future remake/options and get out of paying a five-million-dollar fee, Neue were forced to put something to film, so they made a deal with Roger Corman's New Horizons studio to make the film quick and on the cheap for $1.5 million.
Once the film was finished, Eichinger bought out Corman's interest, then turned around and sold it to 20th Century Fox, who were then prepping a $50 million adaptation with director Chris Columbus. The film then dove into virtual obscurity, save for the comic convention bootlegs and later through the internet.
The storyline follows the basic framework of the comic, with the exception of a few minor details, including the introduction of a new villain, The Jeweler, who directly becomes responsible for the team's mishap in space and takes liberally from another one of the comic's famous villains, The Mole Man.
In reference to its underground popularity, Corman now regards it as his most profitable film that never saw release, while Marvel president Avi Arad reportedly burned Fox's only print." — Jeremy Wheeler, Rovi

Stan Lee -presents- Happy 90th Birthday!
Stan Lee's Cameos
BIO: Stan Lee first became involved in comics in 1939, when he was given work as an assistant at what was then Timely Comics. He was published for the first time in 1941, when he produced text filler for Captain America Comics #3. He wrote his first published comic two months later, which was followed by his first co-creation, Destroyer, in August. Towards the end of that year he was given the position of interim editor of Timely following the departure of Joe Simon.
Through the 1950s he wrote various comics in a variety of genres for what was now known as Atlas Comics. 1961 saw a shift in the works he produced when he was instructed to create a superhero team. Deviating from the norm of superheroes as idealized icons, Lee and artist Jack Kirby produced a superteam that was more distinctly human and flawed: the Fantastic Four.
This team proved incredibly popular, and Lee capitalized on his success with a whole host of new heroes created alongside a variety of artists, including the Hulk, the X-Men, and Spider-Man, among numerous others. He remained busy throughout the 1960s, introducing new features into comics as well as regularly editing, writing comics, and producing extra content such as letter pages and columns.
Stan Lee |
In 1971 he had a hand in loosening the Comics Code Authority's strict guidelines on the portrayal of drugs in comics.
Lee grew increasingly popular with comic book fans, and soon became a sort of figurehead for Marvel. He was briefly made president of the company, but stepped down to become publisher because of his desire to remain involved in the creative aspects of comics. In the early 1980s he became involved in the adaptation of Marvel comics to other media.
In 1998 he co-founded Stan Lee Media, an internet-based studio. Though successful, it filed for bankruptcy in 2000 when his co-founder was discovered to be carrying out illegal stock manipulation.
In 2001 he began working on the Just Imagine... series, his first ever work for DC. That same year he was involved int he formation of POW! Entertainment, which focused on developing other media adaptations.
In 2003 he created Stripperella, an adult-oriented animated television series, which aired on Spike TV for thirteen episodes.
In 2004 he teamed up with Komikwerks.com to produce Stan Lee's Sunday Comics, as well as renewing his column.
In 2006 he featured in a comic book commemorating the 65 years he had spent with Marvel up to that point. Also in 2006 he began hosting the reality television series Who Wants to Be a Superhero?, which was apparently cancelled the following year.
In 2008 he became involved in numerous projects, releasing a fumetti book, collaborating on a manga, producing television and film adaptations of various works, writing comics for Virgin Comics. He also worked on a manga in 2009.
Fantastic Four (2005) -starring- Stan Lee as Willie Lumpkin |
Starting in the 1980s and continuing to the present day, Lee has appeared in nearly every adaptation of Marvel's properties to the screen in a cameo role. He has also been portrayed numerous times in comics. Stan Lee can be found on the internet at his official MySpace page, his two official Facebook pages, and on Twitter.

No but seriously, this has to be One of the Catchiest R&B Tracks of 2012! For those who don't know who Bruno Mars is...he is –by far, the closest reincarnation we have to the King of Pop — my idol: Michael Jackson! (Sometimes I wished I was molested by Mike, "Sigh!" <--- that's how much I miss him!)
As for reincarnations...have you guys ever heard of the BIGGEST MJ WANNA-BE of ALL-TIMES? No, not Chris Brown...his name is...drum-roll please:
B. HOWARD!
He looks, acts, sings & dances like he's a Young MJ!
It's frightening.
He even surrounds himself w/ Michael Jackson's second/third generation family members!
It's scary.
"Dancefloor" – B. Howard
There are rumors swirling around the internet that he is indeed Michael's illegitimate son, but after extensive analysis by theKONGBLOG™ INSIDE KNOWLEDGE Forensic Team, we discovered that he is the son of R&B sultress — Miki Howard (she had a string of Top 10 R&B hits in the late-80's early-90's).
"Supermodel" – B. Howard
Regardless of being a copycat or wanna-be, the influence that Michael Jackson continues to have on today's music is unprecedented...his legacy & popularity will never die.

Pacific Rim (2013) -starring- Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi. Directed by Guillermo del Toro.
SYNOPSIS: When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes -- a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) -- who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
Humans are up against giant monsters called “Kaiju” w/ their own giant human-controlled robots called “Jaegers”. |
Guillermo del Toro is One of the Finest Directors Working in the World of Cinema Today, who has created many exceptional films in recent memory –including Hell Boy I & II, and the Oscar-winning Pan’s Labyrinth (2008), but Pacific Rim (2013) will be del Toro’s first "true" Hollywood big-budget blockbuster.
The trailer showcases a glimpse of some colossal fight scenes which evokes a massive sense of awe — anticipation for this blockbuster has run rampart.

Director Andres Muschietti & Executive Producer Guillermo del Toro |
SYNOPSIS: Five years ago, sisters Victoria and Lilly vanished from their suburban
neighborhood without a trace. Since then, their Uncle Lucas (Nikolaj
Coster-Waldau) and his girlfriend, Annabel (Jessica Chastain), have been
madly searching for them. But when, incredibly, the kids are found
alive in a decrepit cabin, the couple wonders if the girls are the only
guests they have welcomed into their home. As Annabel tries to introduce
the children to a normal life, she grows convinced of an evil presence
in
their house. Are the
sisters experiencing traumatic stress, or is a ghost coming to visit
them? How did the broken girls survive those years all alone? As she
answers these disturbing questions, the new mother will find that the
whispers she hears at bedtime are coming from the lips of a deadly
presence.
Guillermo del Toro presents this supernatural thriller that tells the
haunting tale of two little girls who disappeared into the woods the day
that their parents were killed. When they are rescued years later and attempt to
begin a new life, they find that someone or something still wants to
come tuck them in at night.

Since this movie is produced by del Toro — One of My Favorite Movie Director/Writers, will it live-up to the movie mastermind's billing or will it be a dud like Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (2011)? Only time will tell...

Mission Chinese Food — Voted #1 New York Restaurant in 2012 by The New York Times
Mission Chinese Food is located at 154 Orchard Street |
"LED ZEPPELIN was thumping and moaning at stadium volumes inside Mission Chinese Food. Everybody knew what Robert Plant was thinking:
![]() |
The restaurant was originally in San Francisco. The chef, Danny Bowien, and his collaborator, Anthony Myint, opened the Lower East Side location this summer. |
To be where I have been.
As for our little group, it wasn’t as clear. We were sitting below the wooden chairs and the Chinese dragon that hang from the ceiling, shouting into one another’s faces, gesturing like mimes and attempting to put an order together.
They talk of days for which they sit and wait
All will be revealed.
Outside on Orchard Street, they were waiting, all right, with plenty of time to peer in at the backlighted takeout-style pictures of kung pao pastrami and ma po tofu. Beneath the photos was a keg, and free beer in plastic cups for anybody who could fit inside the door. Unseen others were sitting in bars nearby, wondering whether they would order a third round before the phone rang.
![]() |
When patrons are notified that their table is ready, they go down a few steps, pass behind a curtain, and enter a narrow corridor separated by one long window from the kitchen. |
All I see turns to brown
As the sun burns the ground.
Hot woks run fast. Minutes after we’d ordered, our table was covered with plates. The ma po tofu that had looked impressive on the menu board was staggering in real life. Ivory cubes of bean curd were sunk deep inside quantities of simmered pork and fermented fava paste under a shimmering lake of chile oil.
It burned and buzzed in the pulsating manner of Sichuan, but in China the meat would be a mere seasoning. Mr. Bowien’s version emphasized and amplified the pork to the point where it knocked you down and left you happily breathless.
![]() |
The 41-seat restaurant accepts reservations onlyfor a few tables and seats at the bar. |
Robert Plant was keening now. He wanted to take me there, baby baby. But I was there already, a lamb rib in one hand.
![]() |
Mr. Bowien does to Chinese food what Led Zeppelin did to the blues. His cooking both pays respectful homage to its inspiration and takes wild, flagrant liberties with it. |
The story of how Mr. Bowien — the Korean-born, Oklahoma City-raised, retired indie band frontman; dark-horse world champion of pesto; Food Network reject, and serial workaholic — ended up pillaging and celebrating Chinese cuisine does not follow a straight line.
In brief, he and a collaborator, Anthony Myint, were reverse engineering the cuisine of celebrated restaurants from around the world. They did this two nights a week in a not particularly celebrated Chinese restaurant in the Mission District of San Francisco. Somehow this led to their deciding to invent what Mr. Bowien came to call “Americanized Oriental food” with the blessing of the restaurant’s owners, who dished out chow mein in the same dining room.
The rest can be told in a montage: Long lines. Newspaper and magazine clippings. The Manhattan skyline.
![]() |
Meals at the restaurant grab hold of tradition and hit the accents hard, going heavy on the funk. |
He is also free to make his own mistakes. A recent take on mouthwatering chicken, a Sichuan classic, substituted a chicken roulade stuffed with pickled ramps for the traditional plain boiled chicken. But the roulade was so thickly sliced and tightly wrapped that there was almost nothing for the hot-and-numbing dressing to cling to. (Mr. Bowien apparently thought so, too, and now he uses poached chicken thigh.) And a delicate monkfish liver sashimi was trampled underfoot by an intense soy dipping sauce.
Such stumbles are rare. More common is the random sequencing of the meal. Apart from the night our rice (steamed with nutty grains of barley) showed up just before the check, this was only a minor problem, but it did tend to pit subtle dishes against more fiery ones. You can guess which team lost. A version of chawanmushi, an egg custard topped with raw scallop, a little confetti of green apple and comma-sized basil seeds, was so quiet and defenseless I wanted to take it into another room and bolt the door.
This is one downside of tearing an old cuisine away from a culture that has been working out ways to extract the most pleasure from a meal for centuries. But you can write off that loss when the upside brings dishes like the amazing salt-cod fried rice, rich with the oils of slowly poached mackerel that slick each grain of rice. Or the take on Sichuan fish and pickled vegetable stew. Mr. Bowien spikes the stew with peanuts boiled in Old Bay seasoning, which is both certifiably crazy and certifiably delicious.
A bit like the rock stars who neglected to pay royalties to blues masters like Willie Dixon and Howlin’ Wolf, many American chefs have freely appropriated the cuisines of other cultures, repackaging them and selling them at a premium. They might do well to study the example of Mission Chinese Food, which gives 75 cents to a food bank for each entree sold.

M4SONIC - Virus (Live Launchpad Original)
With a background in classical piano, this 21 year old Australian producer discovered the Launchpad when he read an interview with his music idol Deadmau5 entitled "Dance DJs are Glorified Button Pushers", the article was a typically blunt explanation by Deadmau5 about the ease of modern DJ'ing and the common assumption "by the audience [that] there's a guy on a laptop up there producing new original tracks on the fly. Because none of the "top DJs in the world" to my knowledge have [done this]. Myself included." (Deadmau5) Determined to give the concept of creating a truly live DJing performance, M4SONIC purchased a Novation Launchpad the next day.
Now developing his live show and original tracks this is an artist to watch for 2013...

A video recently posted on YouTube shows a frightening scene in which a Golden Eagle –said to be North America's largest bird of prey, flies over a park in Montreal, Canada and snatches a toddler and attempts to fly-away.
The person filming focuses on the large bird in the sky as it targets and hones in on a small, unattended child on the grass and then suddenly swooping down and lifting it into the air while another person nearby rummages through a bag — not noticing that the eagle had taken the baby airborne.
A frantic scene ensues in which the camera man lowers the camera and runs toward the child but fortunately, the eagle drops the baby and flies away — leaving the toddler unharmed.
The video quickly went viral but KONGTROVERSY quickly ensues questioning the authenticity of the captured incident. Biologists and experts have never heard of an eagle snatching another human being and the skepticism grew until theKONGBLOG™'s INSIDE KNOWLEDGE Team of Forensics uncovered the truth:
Three students in 3D animation created a video depicting an eagle snatching a toddler in a Montreal park that went viral and generated discussions around the world.
Normand Archambault, Loïc Mireault and Félix Marquis-Poulin, students at Centre NAD, Canada have come forward to claim responsibility for the overnight sensation.
The video "Golden Eagle Snatches Kid in Montreal" garnered over 5 million views in one day.
"We brainstormed some ideas of what is viral online," said Archambault. "Everything that is animal related and baby related are super popular so we tried to bring both together and make something extraordinary that wouldn't happen every day."
The video took the students 400 hours to create.
The school grades the project according to the amount of views each video receives and videos that exceed 100,000 views get a perfect score...what do 32,000,000+ views receive?
