Marilyn Monroe's Love Letter to Joe DiMaggio

Marilyn Monroe - Hollywood Icon

Marilyn Monroe's Love Letter to New York Yankees Legend Joe DiMaggio:

"I don't know how to tell you just how much I miss you. I love you till my heart could burst. All I love, all I want, all I need is you—forever. I want to be just where you are and be just what you want me to be. I know it's lousy of me to be so late so often, and I promise to try a million times harder, I promise."

In 1952, the legendary New York Yankees slugger Joe DiMaggio asked an acquaintance to arrange a dinner date w/ Marilyn Monroe, a beautiful buxom-blonde model turned Hollywood actress, whose star was on the rise.

The powerful couple soon married in January 1954 and became an immediate tabloid sensation — perhaps the first of its kind.

Unfortunately, DiMaggio and Monroe were divorced in October 1954, only 274 days after they were married. In her filing, Monroe accused her husband of “mental cruelty” — she eventually married a prominent playwright figure Arthur Miller in 1956, but their marriage also ended in divorce in January 1961, leaving Monroe in a state of depression and emotional fragility.

In February 1961, she was admitted to a psychiatric clinic — it was DiMaggio who secured her release and took her to the Yankees’ spring training camp in Florida so she could recover.

Although rumors swirled about the two rekindling their romance, they maintained being just "good friends." Tragically, Monroe died of a drug overdose at the age of 36 on August 5th, 1962 — again, it was DiMaggio who arranged the funeral.

For the next two decades, until his own death in 1999, he sent roses several times a week to her grave in Los Angeles.
