Are You a Hardcore Gamer?

Are You a Hardcore Gamer?
by AmaSing

Some of us might certainly believe so. I mean, I consider myself a hardcore gamer in that the games I do play (genera wise), I dedicate hours and even when I “beat” the game, I replay it over to acquire high levels or possibly something that I might have missed. Not true for Michael Thomasson who technically didn’t miss anything relating to video games.

Mr. Thomasson has acquired 10,607 video games with their console (the medium in which to play the games). Thomasson is the newly crowned world record holder for having the largest collection of video games. He is featured in a two-page spread in the just-released "Guinness World Records 2014 Gamer's Edition."

It certainly brings new meaning to the term “game on.” His amazing collection contains not just the standard cd/dvd discs but cartridges, laser disc, and even VHS-based games (which I didn’t even know existed).

He estimates the collection is worth $700,000 to $800,000. Thomasson designs games and teaches 2D animation, game design and the history of video games at Canisius College in Buffalo. He also writes on the topic for magazines and books. Guinness lists the number of games in Thomasson's record-breaking collection at 10,607, though he said the number exceeds 11,000 now, a year after the official count and after discovering forgotten stashes of games after the counting crew left. As for me, I have a little more than a 100. For those cry babies who didn’t get their hands on the Xbox One:

I suggest you become good friends with Michael because you know he gets his hands on the latest joint! Cheers to you Michael Thomasson and keep on gaming.

If you enjoyed this article, I suggest you watch a movie titled: “The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters (2007).” It’s about one man’s pursuit to be the reigning champion in the classic arcade game “Donkey Kong.”

How high can you get?
