Los Angeles Dodgers: Clayton Kershaw Sets Baseball Record w/ $215 Million Deal
The Los Angeles Dodgers and Clayton Kershaw have agreed on the biggest deal in major league history: a seven-year, $215 million contract, a person with knowledge of the deal told USA TODAY Sports.
The person requested anonymity because the deal will not be final until Kershaw passes a physical.
The deal would give Kershaw an average annual salary of $30.7 million.
He could also opt out of the contract after five years.
L.A. general manager Ned Colletti did not return a text seeking comment.
The two-time NL Cy Young Award winner and the Dodgers had been negotiating an extension on-and-off since last spring, and the urgency was increasing as he approached his final season before free agency.

He won the Cy Young last season after going 16-9 and leading the league in ERA (1.83) and WHIP (0.915) for the third straight season. He also won the award in 2011.
The lefty was eligible for arbitration and would have been a free agent after the 2014 season.
Over his six-year career, he is 77-46 with a 2.60 ERA.
