Tiny House Nation — A&E's Creative Masterminds

'Tiny House Nation'

'Tiny House Nation' Premieres Wednesday On A&E's New FYI Network

You don’t need it, you can’t keep it,” remodeling expert John Weisbarth explains to a family of three who are about to downsize from a 1,300-square-foot home to a 172-square-foot tiny house on wheels.

The small-space scenario is the first in a series of 10 one-hour episodes from A&E’s new FYI lifestyle network as it jumps on the tiny-house bandwagon with “Tiny House Nation,” premiering Wednesday, July 9.

The show is hosted by Weisbarth and contractor Zack Giffin, who lives in a 100-square-foot mobile ski chalet. The pair travel the country, highlighting tiny houses both high-end and budget-minded, such as a caboose car in Montana and a micro-apartment in New York City.

Like on other reality-based design shows, Weisbarth and Giffin will expedite the building process as they help people create dream homes no larger than 300 square feet while learning much about small-space living in the process.

Homeowners can steal many of the clever strategies involved in making a space feel bigger: using vaulted ceilings for light, installing storage under beds and growing plants in vertical planters. There are also life lessons that come with downsizing and living small. — Liz Boone | LA Times
