WWE Honors Rowdy Roddy Piper

Watch the Entire WWE Roster Honor 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper

The entire WWE roster stood in honor during this week's Monday Night Raw show to pay a special tribute to "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. The WWE legend passed away last week at the age of 61. The tribute included a 10-bell salute and a touching video montage, while Greg Holden’s song "Hold On Tight" played overhead, documenting some of Piper's most memorable fights, trash talks, and performances — including smashing beers in the ring with Stone Cold Steve Austin and his infamous "chew bubblegum and kick ass" scene from They Live, the 1988 American science fiction horror directed by John Carpenter.

"WWE is deeply saddened that Roderick Toombs, aka 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper – WWE Hall of Famer and Intercontinental Champion – passed away today at the age of 61," WWE wrote in a statement on Friday. "WWE extends its sincerest condolences to Toombs’ family, friends and fans."

Other athletes in the professional sports world are reaching out to pay their respects and tributes to the kilt-sporting wrestler as well. Oakland A's outfielder Josh Reddick posted this message to Twitter, and walked to the plate to the sound of Piper's legendary bagpipes during Saturday's game against the Cleveland Indians.

UFC bantamweight reigning champ Ronda Rousey dedicated her 34-second knockout of Bethe Corriea during Saturday's UFC 190 special to Piper. After her win she emotionally stated "I just want to say we lost a really close friend, Rowdy Roddy Piper, who gave me permission to use his name as a fighter, so I hope him and my dad had a good time watching this today." – Lauren Steele | Men's Journal
