Take a look inside the life of "Undrafted" contestant wide receiver Jakeem Grant as he looks to compete for a spot on a NFL roster.

Get to know Jakeem Grant: Miami Dolphins Q&A

Jakeem Grant was selected in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft (despite appearing on the popular NFL Network show “Undrafted”). Many didn’t expect Grant to be drafted because he’s (listed at) 5-feet-7 and 172 pounds. But Grant was timed between a 4.14 and 4.34 in 40-yard dashes at his Pro Day and so despite failing to secure an invite to the NFL Scouting Combine, the Dolphins were thrilled to add a player with his elusiveness and electric game-changing abilities. Grant is fifth in the NFL in kickoff return average and eighth in the league in punt return average. Grant is approachable, loquacious and affable. He’s also really funny. Each week, The Daily Dolphin plans to bring you a Q&A with a Miami Dolphin that will help you get to know more about the player. We believe most players are enthusiastic about sharing more about themselves if asked questions in little different way.

Jakeem Grant/Miami Dolphins wide receiver and returner/Texas Tech/24 years old
I wrote this week that Jakeem Grant is “harder to catch than a baby iguana.” Did you see the iguana video?
I saw that, man. That’s nice. I thought that baby iguana gave great effort. His effort to not be eaten was amazing. And I feel like with your tweet, I have no choice but to live up to that now.
You made eight guys miss on a 19-yard return that took a half-hour.
I was just trying to make something happen. I was trying to find a hole and make a play and I couldn’t find one. I looked up and it says 19 yards and I thought I ran 50 yards. But it worked out. I tired them out for (Kenyan) Drake.
I heard Leonte Carroo is your roommate. How is that going?
He’s outgoing. He’s crazy. Crazy in a good way. Loves to play around and joke. He is like my little big brother. He’s bigger than me but I am older than him. I just feel like we’re not friends. He’s more like my brother. In camp we roomed in the hotel. Now I see him every day. We argue sometimes. But at the end of the day that’s my brother.
So you’re a nationally-ranked eGamer? On Call of Duty?
Yeah, I am. I am in the Top 2,000 in Domination, which may not seem high, but if you see how many people actually play, that’s incredible. So I take pride in it. I love playing Call of Duty. I challenge people to play me. I challenge them to lose. Not even Damien Williams. I even came to his house and said, ‘Let’s play Call of Duty.’ But he was like, ‘No, I heard about you. I’ve seen all your records.’” He doesn’t want to play me.
Who are some of your favorite country music artists?
Tim McGraw. Kenny Chesney. Jason Aldean. Josh Turner. My favorite is Tim McGraw. He is an outstanding musician and a great actor. He is a dual threat. He’s just outstanding.
Who would finish 1-2-3 in a Miami Dolphins 40-yard dash 10 minutes from now on the practice field?
Me at one. At two, (Kenyan) Drake. Three, maybe Kenny Stills. I will say, Lafayette Pitts has showed me he is fast. I have seen the tape. I have seen him chasing Kenny Stills. He shocked me he’s so fast.
Texas Tech doesn’t seem to have a natural rival. Which team did you dislike the most?
For me, it was Oklahoma State. It’s different ever year. One year it’s TCU. Next year it’s Baylor. Or Texas. You never know. We had have that specific rival.
Fans are so close they touched me on the sideline at OSU.
They have those paddles. Those Thunderstix. And it was loud. They showed me respect, actually. I’m not the type to turn around and bad-mouth the fans. If they say anything to me, I just prove it on the field. And then once I do that, they’re your fan, too.
What did you think the first time you saw the ocean?
Yeah, my fiancé came to town. And neither me or her have ever been to the beach. I was like, let’s go. I got in there to my knees and she was saying, ‘No, no! Because if you drown, I can’t save you! I can’t swim! I was like I’m only up to my knees. I’m standing up.’ We loved it. It was fun.
I have a four-year old girl. I know you have three children. What is it like to be a young Dad?
It’s amazing. There is no better job in the world. Being able to see the smile on their faces, saying, Daddy, Daddy. Wanting to play. Wanting to have you around. Just seeing my children motivates me, to go out there and be better than anyone. And it’s beautiful.
Rookie class. Which rookie would do best on American Ninja Warrior?
(Running back Damien Williams chimes in: (Leonte) Carroo. Carroo.)
I would love to see my brother Carroo even do it. Man, I don’t know. I don’t know. But I would love to see him do it. That would be funny.

Which rookie would do the best on Jeopardy?
I would say Thomas Duarte or Brandon Doughty.
Which rookie would do the best on The Bachelor?
I would say Brandon Doughty.
He’s probably been to Roundup (Country Bar) in Davie.
I think he’d do well. You get him out of that shell, he’d do well.
Please Rank These: Kliff Kingsbury, Minions, Lubbock, Danny Amendola, Fort Lauderdale, Darren Sproles, Emmitt Smith, Jason Aldean, Baylor, Texas, Wes Welker, TCU
